Mary Stebbins Hobbs

Woodsville, NH – Mary (Stebbins) Hobbs, 68, of Park Street, and a former longtime Wells River, VT resident, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Vergennes, VT, June 5, 1945, the daughter of Gilbert and Eleanor (Hayes) Stebbins. Mary graduated from Vergennes High School and later the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in Burlington, VT where she received her LPN certification. Mary, along with her husband, moved to Wells River in 1974, and she worked for many years at the Blue Mt. Union School as the assistant librarian. She was a member of the former Woodsville Study Club, Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, Rivers Reach, Blue Mt. Grange, and VNEA. She loved reading, knitting, and being with her family. She married Duane M. Hobbs on September 23, 1967. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Stebbins; and an aunt, Marion Goulet. Survivors include her husband, Duane of Woodsville; her children, Michael Hobbs and his daughters, Elizabeth Hazen Hobbs and Matilda Mary Hobbs of Litchfield, Minnesota, Jonathan Hobbs and wife Kindra and children, Kyle and Paige Royer of Woodsville, Joe Pollender of Boston, MA, Kate Davie and husband Steve and their children, Hannah, Willa, and Owen, of Ryegate, VT, Abby Pollender and her children Molly Goolman, Ann and Kara Goolman of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Ann Pollender and husband Alan Kamman and their family, Aliza and Sawyer Kamman of Lincoln, VT; a brother, John Stebbins of Boca Raton, FL; and along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, September 24 from 6 to 8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 25 at 2 PM at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, with Rev. Jeffrey Statz officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bath, NH. Memorial contributions can be made to the Woodsville Ambulance, PO Box 50, Woodsville, NH 03785, Baldwin Memorial Library, Main Street, Wells River, VT 05081, or to Haverhill VFW Post # 5245, c/o Dale Pierson, Beech Street, Woodsville, NH 03785.
