South Ryegate, VT Addie Mae (Carpenter) Darling, 88, died February 1, 2009, at Cottage Hospital Woodsville, NH, after a brief illness. Born in Woodsville on July 29, 1920, she was the daughter of Henry C. and Florence (Blair) Carpenter. She graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1938 and continued her education at beauty school in Boston. Addie married her one true love, Newton Hall Newtie Darling, of Groton, VT, on June 28, 1947 and they spent over 46 years together before God took him home. Addie loved to do crafts and left many items to be cherished. She also enjoyed yard sales, craft shows, and running the roads. Gram loved nothing more than her family and friends. Her door was always open to friends for sliding, pizza and sugar-on-snow parties, sleepovers and hayrides for up to 50 children at a time. She was well-loved by many and will be deeply missed. Addie was predeceased by her husband Newtie Darling on December 19, 1993; a daughter, Diane Darling on October 3, 1970; her two sons, Gary Darling on December 11, 1991 and David N. Darling, Sr. on December 24, 2007; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Makin on August 23, 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Emerson of South Ryegate, VT and Bonnie Bound of Wolcott, VT; 23 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Whalen of Woodsville; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 2 PM at the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook, officiating. Burial will be on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at noon in Groton Village Cemetery.
