Newbury, VT- Alice Violet (Sawyer) Ames, 83, died peacefully at her daughter s home in Newbury on Monday, June 17, 2013. Alice was born in Haverhill, NH on August 21, 1929, to Clyde Bailey and Lily (Ward) Sawyer. She graduated from Haverhill Academy and Concord Commercial College. On November 21, 1948, she married Harold Ames of Bradford, VT. They later moved to Newbury. On August 29, 1998, she married Robert Winn of Piermont, NH. For over fourteen years, Alice worked at Wanda s Rest Home and then for three years at Brookside Nursing Home, both in Bradford, VT. Alice also cared for numerous folks in her own home, over the years. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Harold Ames in October 1988 and Robert Winn in October 1999. She was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Sawyer Balch. She is survived by her five children, Bernard Ames and wife, Maribeth of Bradford, Marie Ames of Pacifica, CA, Gerald Ames and wife Margaret of Rutland, VT, Ruth Allsop and husband Bruce of Newbury, and David Ames of Rutland; her four step-children, Jennifer Winn Smas and husband Steve of Haverhill, Jan Winn Fifield and husband Keith of Thetford Center, VT, Joanne Winn Clogston and husband Donny of Piermont, NH, and Robert Winn and wife Rose of Shermansdale, PA; six grandchildren, Bernard Skeeter Ames II of Bradford, Marlena Allsop of Northfield, VT, Carrie Ames of Burlington, VT, Stephanie Ames of Wakefield, MA, Jonathan Ames of Rutland, and Chauntel Ames of Manchester, NH; one great grandson Charles Michael Poulin of Northfield; a brother-in-law, Donald Balch of Underhill, VT, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Friday, June 21, from 6-7 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A graveside service will be on Saturday, June 22 at 11 AM in the Center Haverhill Cemetery, Benton Road, North Haverhill, NH.
