Obituary

Groton, VT – Allen Louis Gandin, 89, of Minard Hill Road, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Woodridge Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, VT.

Allen was born in Haverhill, NH on February 18, 1929, a son of Aristide "Tony" and Ivis (Crown) Gandin.

Allen graduated from Groton High School, Class of 1947.  He owned and operated Gandin Brothers Memorials with his father, Tony Gandin and later with his brother, Gaylord "Butch" Gandin.  Allen retired from the family business 25 years ago.   Gandin Brothers Memorials is now a fourth generation family business with over years 100 years of memorial service.

He is a member of the Groton United Methodist Church, Pulaski Lodge #58 of Wells River, Mutuo Club of Barre, and a longtime member of the Bradford Golf Club.  Allen was one of the original Blue Mountain Union School Board members when the school was built.  He was later on the building committee when the school renovations happened and wood chip facility was built.  Over the years Allen was a Justice of the Peace and performed many weddings and delivered voting ballots in town.  He loved deer and rabbit hunting and passed on that passion to his family.  Allen loved time spent at the hunting camp in Topsham, VT. He was also an avid baseball and basketball athlete and fan, passing this trait down to his children and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits, including his son, Dan's coaching career at U-32 in East Montpelier, VT.  Allen's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the light of his life.

Allen married Geraldine "Dolly" Page on July 23, 1950.

Allen was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine "Dolly" Gandin on June 4, 2001; a sister, Lona Gray on June 27, 2018.

He is survived by two sons, Dan Gandin and wife Tracy of Leland, NC and Gregg Gandin and wife Julie of Ryegate; seven grandchildren, Shelby Gandin, Kacey Ness and husband Zach, Abbey Ciardi and husband RJ, Ben Gandin, Andrew Gandin and wife Kerri, Kelly Wiltshire and husband Chris, and Sean Lavin; twelve great grandchildren, Mya Ness, Lea Ness, Olivia Ciardi, Isabelle Ciardi,Josephine Ciardi, Hadley Gandin, Ella Gandin, Mason Gandin, Jackson Gandin, Parker Gandin, Amelia Lavin, and Caroline Lavin; a brother, Gaylord J. "Butch" Gandin and wife Judy of Groton; three sisters, Vilma G. Wright of Woodsville, NH, Anita G. Mains and husband Harold of Elizabethtown, TN, and Donna E, McCaffrey of Yarmouthport, MA; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 7th, from 6 to 8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.

A funeral service will be on Thursday, November 8th, at 11 AM at the Groton United Methodist Church with Pastor Candace Ricker and will be assisted by Pastor Dennis Walton from the Groton Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, VT.
