Obituary

Andrew Lealand "Andy" Boemig, 73, died Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Shands Starke Regional Medical Center in Florida with family by his side.

Andy was born in Malden, Massachusetts to Madison K. and Romina S. (Howard) Boemig and later moved to New Hampshire where he attended schools in Lisbon and Woodsville.

He fostered a love of the outdoors early in life and grew into an avid sportsman hunting and fishing whenever he had the chance. Whether fresh water, salt water, ice or fly fishing, Andy never left without catching his limit, a passion he shared with both his children.

Enlisting in 1963 and serving his country both stateside and overseas, Andy was a Vietnam era veteran who served in the 82 nd Airborne All American Division. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and returned to Woodsville where he began his career, married his wife and began their family.

Professionally, Andy was an accomplished railroad trainman and conductor, and ultimately retired as a train engineer. He was a talented carpenter and had a keen eye for finish carpentry. After retiring, he toured the U.S. in his motor home. He spent countless hours metal detecting in search of Civil War artifacts. He enjoyed playing golf and was a dedicated vegetable gardener. He loved reading and tackling difficult crossword puzzles. His compassion for animals was evident in his commitment to caring for a small community of stray kittens and cats. He was a fantastic cook and master of the grill. His adoration of classic country music cannot go unmentioned. He taught himself to play the guitar and banjo, and was rarely seen without one or the other.

Wherever Andy lived, he was quick to make friends and will be fondly remembered for his country music jam sessions. Always the first to come to the aid of family member, friend or neighbor, he will be greatly missed and remembered for his kindness.

Andy is survived by the mother of his children, Ruth Boemig of Starke, FL; two children, daughter Traci Fairbanks and husband Lester, of Chesterfield, NH; son Andrew Lealand Boemig, Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of Franklin, NC, grandchildren Samuel and Ethan Fairbanks,  Felicia and Takoda Boemig and Anthony Ambrose and wife, Amber; great-grandchildren Jaycean and Daviniti Rondeau; sisters Kathryn "Katie" Johnson and Marilyn "Micky" Newman; and brothers Madison "Dutch" and Meredith "Dit" Boemig, and numerous nephews and neices. He was predeceased by his father in 1988 and his mother in 2004.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on June 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Swiftwater Road,  Woodsville, NH.
