Anna B.
Somers
August 8, 2025
Anna B. Somers, 96 of Danville, VT passed away August 8, 2025, at The Morrison Skilled Nursing Care Facility in Whitefield, NH after a period of declining health. She had been a resident of The Morrison since April 1 of this year. Prior to this, she lived at her home in Danville.
Anna was the youngest child born to Harold L. and Agnes (Steele) Somers in St. Johnsbury, VT. She grew up on the family farm in Peacham where she developed her strong work ethic doing chores. She spoke often of riding her horse, Josie, four miles each way to Peacham Academy during her high school years. Anna was known for her intelligence, wisdom, dry sense of humor and smile. She was not afraid to speak her mind. She was a devoted wife, mother and active community member in her town of Danville, VT.
She was a graduate of Peacham Academy, Class of 1948 then attended Keene Teacher's College for three years. During her high school years, she participated in several activities including sports, especially basketball, and band where she played the trombone. It was during her high school years, she met her future husband, Edward (Tim) Somers. After they married on June 23, 1952, they moved to California and Nevada where he served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the service, they returned to Peacham before relocating to Danville in 1958. Their marriage lasted over 66 years until his death in 2018. They raised two children, Linda S. Tasker of Henniker, NH and Scott E. Somers of Danville, VT. She took great pride in her family and her Town.
Anna worked for many years in the banking industry at Caledonia National Bank in Danville, retiring as a Loan Officer. She then worked for Reed and Balivet for a few years and for a brief time in real estate. After her retirement, she worked with Tim on the farm in Peacham haying, sugaring and cutting firewood. Tim had restored several antique tractors that they used on the farm. Both had enjoyed driving them in the Peacham Fourth of July Tractor Parade with their grandchildren through 2015.
Tim and Ann were a team, living their lives as a demonstration of selflessness, offering their gifts of love, skills, know-how and service to their family, friends, neighbors and community. They volunteered delivering meals to elders as part of the West Barnet Senior Meal Site. Anna served as a member of the Danville Selectboard and may have had a hand in Tim's serving his 19 year stint volunteering to wind "Big Howard", the clock on the Town Hall. As a member of the Danville Congregational Church, she served on the Christian Service Committee, and both worked on the Easter Breakfast Committee for over 50 years. Anna was famous for her Graham Muffins. She was a member and former officer of the Adah Chapter No.39 Order of the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. Over the years, many floats were created and driven away from their home as part of Danville Fair Day. Tim and Ann were recognized in 2019 as Citizen's of the Year at Danville Fair for their years of service to the Town of Danville.
In 2023, Anna was recognized by the Danville Historical Society as Danville's Distinguished Female Elder. This is an honor she held until her passing at the age of 96.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Linda S. Tasker of Henniker, NH and her son, Scott E. Somers of Danville, VT, grandchildren Eliza Tasker-Smith (Jerry) of Concord, NH, Emma Tasker of Henniker, NH, Brandon Somers and Cameron Somers of Danville, VT and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved grand-dog, Poppy. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Agnes Somers of Peacham, Wendell Somers of Peacham, and daughter-in-law Wendy M. Somers, of Danville.
Anna's family would like to thank her special caregivers, "The Chicks at 106" for their loving care while she was at home in Danville. Kathy Linkovich, Debbie Peck, Kathy Churchill Bradley, Betsy Dorries and Amber Lasnier each brought something special and unique to her home and certainly knew how to make her smile. The love and kindnesses from our dear neighbors, Laura and Alexa Daudlin, have been priceless. The health care team at the Danville Health Center offered support to Anna as we were trying to have her age in place. The staff at The Morrison offered her care and comfort to the very end. We can't say enough.
It is the family's hope that Anna's passing could serve to support initiatives that support those aging in their communities. If one wishes to make a donation in Anna's memory, please consider the West Barnet Senior Meal Site PO Box Barnet, VT 05821, Danville Congregational Church 87 Hill Street, Danville, VT 05828 or the Danville Health Center 26 Cedar Ln, Danville, VT 05828.
There will be a graveside service on Monday August 18, 2025, at 11AM at the Danville Green Cemetery. After the services there will be light refreshments hosted by the Christian Services Committee downstairs in the Danville Congregational Church.
