Obituary

St. Johnsbury, VT-  Arlene Muriel Stuart, 88, of Brightlook Drive, died on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH.

Arlene was born in North Haverhill, NH on September 23, 1930 to Byron and Nellie (Vancour) Royston.  She was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy and went on to initially work at Maple Grove Farms.  On December 9, 1953, she married Desmond Stuart.  Together, they owned and operated the Royston Farm in Barnet, VT for over 30 years, before selling the farm in 1985.  Eventually, Arlene went to work for Pete and Gerry's Egg Farm in Monroe and volunteered at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, St. Johnsbury.

Arlene enjoyed going for Sunday rides and taking bus trips to the casino.  She attended the West Barnet Senior Meal site and the St. Johnsbury House.  She especially loved cooking with her family, making doughnuts for family reunions and popcorn balls for Christmas.

She was predeceased by her husband, Desmond Stuart on March 16, 2009; her sisters, Louise, Mary, Della, Nellie, Marion, Phyllis, and Emma; and her brothers, Byron, Burt, and James Royston.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Stuart Stahler and Steve MacDonald of Waterford, VT and Marion Stuart and husband Doug Cross of Littleton, NH; four grandchildren, Lindsey LaCoss and husband Dan, Justin Stahler, Benjamin Classen and wife Lindsey, and Meredith Classen and Jaison Badillo; five great grandchildren, Muriel, Collin, Jenna, Hailey, and Jayvon; along with several nieces and nephews.

Arlene's family appreciates the care and support she received from her caregivers over the past few years.  They would also like to acknowledge her niece, Barbara Stamm for all she provided to and for Arlene.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 1 PM in the North Monroe Cemetery, with Mr. John Sleeper officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either the West Barnet Senior Meal Site, PO Box 134, Barnet, VT 05821, or to your local Meals on Wheels program.
