Obituary

Newbury, VT Arline (Booth) Ross, 98, a longtime Newbury resident died November 13, 2011 at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. She was born in Methuen, MA, January 25, 1913, a daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Stanhope) Booth. She moved to Lewiston, ME at age 4 with her family and graduated from Jordan High School Class of 1931. Arline graduated in 1934 from Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston as a registered nurse and practiced in Lewiston where she became the Head of Obstetrics at Central Main General. She married Cecil D. Ross on March 1, 1936 in Lewiston. Together they moved to Newbury, VT where she began work in the antique business, making hundreds of lampshades. From 1965 to 1988 she worked first for Richard Darling Antiques and then for Ralph and Barbara Perry of Oxbow Antiques & Lampshades both of Newbury. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Newbury and the Women s Fellowship, as-well-as the Newbury Historical Society. She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Cecil D. Ross, on July 19, 2009 and a sister, Evelyn Booth Rolfe. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia R. VanWagoner of Epping, NH and a son, Stephen B. Ross and wife Virginia of South Ryegate, VT; five grandsons, David E. VanLuven and wife Isabelle Bleecker, Mark C. VanLuven, Jeremy M. Ross and wife Carrie, Timothy A. Ross and wife Emily, and Brian G. Ross; five great granddaughters, Catherine, Juliette, and Emma VanLuven and Alexandra and Maydene Ross; a sister, Leora Booth DeOrsey of Sun City Center, FL; nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Friday, Nov. 18th, at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury, VT.
