Avis Lorraine Royston, 88, of Groton, VT, passed away at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH, following a period of failing health.

She was born in Barnet, VT, on November 21, 1937, the daughter of Leo Greenwood and Gladys (Brown) Greenwood. Avis spent her childhood in Peacham, VT, where she attended Peacham Academy.

On March 21, 1954, she married Byron Royston Jr. Avis dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. In her leisure time, she found joy in the outdoors while fishing, as well as crafting and traveling. She particularly cherished the time she spent at the Riverside Life Enrichment Center in Lyndonville.

Avis is survived by her loving family, including three sons, David Royston and his partner Lisa Judd of Holland, VT, Jody Royston and his partner Flora Sigouin of Lunenburg, VT, and Tony Royston and his partner Sherry Sargent, of Irasburg, VT; and a daughter, April Hannett and her husband Randy of Walden, VT. She leaves behind a legacy of 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Byron Royston Jr.; three sons, Byron Royston III, Dale Royston, and Larry Royston; and a sister, Barbara Bowely.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Danville Green Cemetery in Danville, VT.
