Concord, NH- Beatrice Ralph Smith, 99, formerly of Woodsville and Goffstown, NH died on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Presidential Oaks where she had resided since 2007.
Beatrice was born in Green Bay, WI on May 12, 1917, to Royal Arundel and Marie Evelyn (Dessart) Ralph. Throughout her schooling, she was an honors student, graduating from Antigo (WI) High School. Following high school, she continued her education at the University of Wisconsin and Langlade County Vocational School.
Initially, Beatrice worked for local businesses. During World War II, she worked in Chicago as an auditor for the Bureau of the Public Debt for the US Treasury Department.
After the War, she married Lenward Oscar Smith on August 31, 1946. They moved to NH where she was the office manager with the Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation, working in various locations. Upon her retirement, she lived in Poland, ME before relocating to Woodsville in 1981.
Beatrice noted that God has always been in her life and she has always attended church. She was a member to the Calvary Baptist Church in Woodsville where she served as treasurer. Throughout her life she has also been involved with the Rebekah's and was an associate of the Mystery Rebekah's of Goffstown, NH, and a member of the Mary Glidden Lodge in Woodsville.
In her spare time she enjoyed reading, sewing, needle point, and genealogy. She also loved gardening and photography.
Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Lenward Oscar Smith on February 7, 1977; a stepson, Frank L. Smith; and three brothers, Raymond Ralph of Appleton, WI, Vernon Ralph of Antigo, WI , and Oren Ralph of Madison, WI.
Beatrice is survived by two sons, Ralph Smith and his fiancée` Jeannine Cote of Naples, FL and Walter Smith and his wife Gloria of Manchester, NH; a stepdaughter, Patricia Bennett of MA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A calling hour will be on Monday, May 23 from 2:30 -3:30 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH with a funeral service beginning at 3:30. Pastor Alan Morrison of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Ladd Street Cemetery, Haverhill, NH.
