North Haverhill, NH- Bernard Joseph Murphy, 94, of Sand Road, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 6, 2014. Bernie was born in Charlestown, MA on December 10, 1919, to Bernard F. and Margaret B. (Connell) Murphy. He graduated from Boston Latin High School. He then served in the US Navy from May 31, 1943 through December 8, 1945 in the Pacific theater as a Seabee. In September 22, 1946, he married Edith Rita Muise. Bernie worked as a machinist for Manning, Maxwell, and Moore in Watertown, MA for nineteen years, then for Fenwall Electronics in Ashland, MA, before working for RCA in Marlborough, MA as a foreman. Along with Edith, Bernie moved to the Haverhill, NH area in 1985 where they ran the Westgate House Bed and Breakfast. He then worked at the North Haverhill Agway and the Indian Corn Mill for several years, and also for the Haverhill Cemetery Commission. He was a member of the Seabee s Association where he served as the chaplain. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Woodsville, NH, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member and former treasurer of the Haverhill Corner Fire Department. In his spare time, Bernie loved the ocean and fishing, especially deep sea fishing. He was passionate about his Boston Red Sox. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Murphy Kelley on August 30, 2010; brothers Paul J., John M., Charles L., Vincent P., Francis C., and Neil A. Murphy; and a son-in-law, William Rediker on March 17, 2009. He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Edith Murphy of North Haverhill, NH; three children, Margaret Peggy Gelina and husband Paul of Pepperell, MA, Karen Rediker of South Royalton, VT, and Bernard J. Mickey Murphy and wife, Cynthia of Douglas, MA; a son-in-law, Paul Kelley of South Royalton; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, September 9 from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, September 10, at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, NH, with Father Mark Dollard, officiating.
