Pike, NH Bernice (Emery) Pierson, 92, formerly of 124 Cutting Hill, died at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, on Saturday, April 19, 2008. She was born on October 19, 1915 in Piermont, the daughter of Fay and Gladys (Chesley) Emery. She graduated from Orford High School in 1935. In 1937 she married Amos F. Pierson. They lived in Orford for a few years but most of their married life was spent in Haverhill where together they were very prominent and successful dairy farmers for over 60 years. IN HER LIFE: Bernice was a member of the Haverhill Congregational Church where she served as a Deaconess and as a member of the Haverhill Womens Fellowship. She was a member of the Haverhill Historical Society, and a contributing supporter and sponsor of the Old Goshen Church. She and her husband retired in the mid 1980 s and built a new home in Pike where they lived for over 20 years. During their retirement years, they enjoyed many wonderful trips together throughout the U.S. and Canada, traveling with her sister, Velma Holden, of Haverhill, NH and Cecil Bean. She enjoyed gardening, music, making floral arrangements, cooking, collecting pictures of covered bridges and churches, watching the Rev. Billy Graham crusades, attending and cooking for church suppers and other fund raising activities, going to auctions, reading poetry, attending band concerts and picnics, attending the Pierson family reunions each year, as well as the Orford High School Alumni Reunions. She died peacefully with her niece, Susan Holden, of Haverhill, by her side who had watched over and cared for her during the last 6 years. Of late, she has been honored in a local newspaper, The Bridge Weekly Sho-Case, over a series of weeks with published articles for the first time about her life and remembrances as a child (along with those of her beloved sister, Velma) taken from a book authored by her niece, Susan, entitled A Life Like No Other that was written in 2002 as a gift to each of them describing their growing up during an era in time that was as rich in natural history as it was in human history. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Amos, on March 18, 2000; her parents Fay and Gladys (Chesley) Emery; two sisters, Christie Elizabeth Emery of Piermont and Erma Emery Kurtz from California. She is survived by two sisters, Velma E. Holden of Haverhill and Marjorie Manning, of North Haverhill, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins,sisters/brothers in law, and great nieces/nephews.
