Obituary

Woodsville, NH - In loving memory of Bernice Anne Shutt.

In celebration of a life lived fully, we honor a beautiful and extraordinary woman who embodied independence, adventure, love, resilience, and faced life on her terms – for the love of her family.

Known as Gram to us and Bea to you, she filled every room with her free-spirited energy, she had an enduring strength, and was a whirlwind of fun. Her departure leaves an irreplaceable void, yet she remains within our hearts as a guardian angel.

Her journey through life was marked by a fierceness matched only by her deep love for her daughter, always ensuring everyone knew she was 'Dawn's mom'. This love also extended to her son-in-law Dale and her grandchildren, Tiff, Timmy, and Manda, forming the cornerstone of her heart.

Fond memories bring to mind the simple pleasures that brought her immense joy. From her favorite candies to her love for her dog and western movies, not to mention her fondness for bologna sandwiches and black coffee. Lemon cake on her birthday from Dawn, green olives at gatherings, her gold bracelets with emerald and diamond, and her favorite flowers – purple irises, were among her favorite things.

She leaves behind a proud legacy: a caregiver for 20 years, the eldest of six children, and most recently, a fun-loving great-grandmother to Taydin, Meah, Maddie, and Callahan. It is within those she loved the most, that you will continue to find her – in their traits, their mannerisms, and their values. This includes her vibrant and charismatic personality. Her rebellious and determined nature. Her toughness and being a driving force that never gave up in pushing forward.

Mom, Gram, Bea – you will be with us at every moment, still the life of the party and a protector of the family – inspiring us to live with the same enthusiasm and vigor. Rest peacefully, knowing that your voice will forever echo in our hearts, and we will carry you with us until we see you again.

Born on May 30th, 1941, in Tiffin, OH, Bernice lived an incredible 82 years. She peacefully passed away at her home in Woodsville, NH, on Wednesday November 29, 2023.

She was predeceased by her parents, Fern and Don Smith, and her husband Ernest Shutt, in 1999. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Dawn Marie Patneaude, her son-in-law Dale, her grandchildren; Tiffany, Tim and Amanda; as well as her four great-grandchildren.

Cherishing her memory are her siblings and their spouses: Chris Smith and Kathi of ME, Veronica Wedge of GA, Bruce Reed and Rosemary of FL, Mike Smith of FL, and Kirk Smith of FL.

The family will share details for a celebration of life in the near future.
