Newbury, VT Bertha R. Burroughs, 88, formerly of Moore Hill Road, died Monday, September 9, 2013, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. She was born in Newbury, VT, December 22, 1924, a daughter of Leonard and Mary (Meyette) Rollins. A lifelong resident, Bertha graduated from Newbury High School, Class of 1942. She worked as a nursing aide for seven years at the former Hampshire Nursing Home in Haverhill, NH, and for sixteen years at the Grafton County Nursing Home. Bertha was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She was a gardener and canned her produce. She loved baking bread and making donuts and fudge. She belonged to the Newbury Center Home Dem. Bertha married William G. Burroughs on September 20, 1945 and he predeceased her on April 18, 2010. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter Andrea Rae Emerson on January 3, 2000, a grandson Brian Boyce on May 13, 2012, a great grandson Tanner Bachus on November 8, 2002, a son-in-law David Boyce on December 18, 2011, and by three sisters Mae Towle, Elsie Bailey, and Dorothy Rollins, and four brothers Robert Pete , Leonard Mike , Henry Mose and Charles Rollins. Survivors include four daughters Mary Lou Boyce of Wells River, VT, Jean Welch and husband Ronald of Wells River, Linda Farquharson and husband Robert of Groton, VT, and Susan Burroughs of Newbury; two sons William Burroughs, Jr. and wife Bonnie of Woodsville, and Leonard Burroughs and wife Susan of South Ryegate, VT; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter; special niece Adele Alger of Barre, VT; sister-in-law Beverly Rollins of Lebanon, NH; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 12, from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be on Friday, September 13, at 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial in Town House Cemetery, Newbury will immediately follow.
