Obituary

North Haverhill, NH Bertha Reed Farnham went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 after an extended illness. She was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1924 in Lincoln, NH to Ralph and Lura (Thurston) Reed. Her family moved to North Haverhill when she was six, when her father started up his dairy farm. She attended school in North Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill Academy in 1942. She married John L. Farnham, Jr. on August 10, 1946 and they were married for 57 years. She lived in the Town of Haverhill her whole life. She worked at the Wells River 5&10 Store and later at Hovey s Shops in Woodsville for over 20 years. Bertha was a past member of the Methodist Girls Club and Couples Club, a Mother Advisor for Rainbow for Girls, a 4H leader, and a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary #5245. She served as a board member and treasurer for the Trinity Church of the Nazarene for over 20 years. In 2009 she was the recipient of the Grafton County Volunteer of the year award. She delivered meals on wheels to seniors and was instrumental in the planning and startup of Horse Meadow Senior Center. She spent countless hours waiting on tables, leading the Bone Builders class and doing the books for the center, as well as working on fundraiser events and blood drives. She devoted her life to her church, her family, and her community, and opened her home and heart to family, friends, and strangers alike. Bertha loved to play cribbage, do puzzles, play any sport, walk, and gaze upon the mountains from her family room. She was a diehard Patriots and Red Sox fan. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother as well as a friend to many. Family gatherings were always very special to her. She was predeceased by her husband, John L. Farnham, Jr.; her son-in-law, Martin Ebelt; her parents and six siblings; Raymond Reed, Ralph Reed, Martha Wilson, Katherine Cummins, Barbara Fullerton, and Herbert Reed. She is survived by her three daughters, Debra Ebelt, Barbara Leete and husband Gary, and Margo Longacre and husband Joseph; six granddaughters, Lori (& Matthew) Taylor, Kelli (& Jefferey) Butterworth, Christy (& Steve) Coppin, Keri Ebelt, Patience (& Aaron) Rich, and Sarah Leete and fianc Corey Provost; ten great grandchildren, Connor & Isis Coppin, Alayna Welch, Derek & Kara Butterworth, Courtney & Benjamin Taylor, and Jada, Evan and Reed Rich; she has her extended Longacre family which includes Melinda (& Breck) Taber and daughters, Ashlyn & Kayla, Timothy Longacre & Nicole Cunningham, and Joshua (& Meghan) Longacre and daughters, Ella and Sophie; a sister, Irene Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves her abiding faith, her Christian example, and her amazing love to her family as her legacy. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 29 from 6 to 8 PM at the Horse Meadow Senior Center, 91 Horse Meadow Road, North Haverhill. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 41 Nazarene Drive, North Haverhill on Saturday, November 30, at 11 AM with Rev. George Hemway officiating. In lieu of flowers, it was Bertha s wish that memorial contributions be made to the Horse Meadow Senior Center to be used for an activities room addition to the center.
