November 25, 2022
Bertha Lee (LeConte) Magoon, 88, Woodsville, passed peacefully after a period of failing health at The Atkinson Residence in Newbury, VT, with her children by her side, on Friday November 25, 2022. She was born in Westbrook, ME to Rudolph and Mona (Pinkham) LeConte on July 29, 1934, the second of seven children. She attended local schools. Bertha married George A. Grant in 1952 and they had two children together. Bertha was fortunate to find love again and she married Ronald T. Magoon on January 4, 1963, in Westbrook ME and they had one son. The couple raised their family while living in Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts, settling in Woodsville in 1966.
Bertha worked as a waitress at Bagonzi's Restaurant for many years before retiring. She enjoyed the many family vacations taken when her children were younger. In retirement she traveled all over the United States and Europe with Ron, and they spent winters in Florida for several years. Born and raised in Maine, she loved the ocean and lighthouses. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and crocheting. She loved the Hallmark channel and decorating for Christmas. The most important thing in her life was spending time with her family.
Bertha is predeceased by her parents; her first husband, George A. Grant; her second husband Ronald Magoon; three brothers, Rudolph "Sonny" LeConte, Philip LeConte, and Earl LeConte; two sisters Doris Tripp, and Josephine "Peewee" Rodgers. She is survived by her three children George C. Grant and his wife Deborah of Sunapee, NH, Gail S. Welch and her husband Roger of Woodsville, NH, and Ronald L. Magoon and his wife Lori of Franklin, NH; a sister Arlene Zahniser and her husband Bob of Toronto, OH; nine grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the West Look Cemetery in Glover, VT beside her husband.
In recognition of the loving care she received, those who wish may make donations in memory of Bertha Magoon to The Atkinson Residence, 4717 Main St South. Newbury, VT 05051.
