Obituary

South Ryegate, VT- Betty Patricia Daniels, 86, formerly of Scott Highway, died following a period of declining health on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, St. Johnsbury, VT.
Betty was born in Concord, VT on December 21, 1929, to Peter and Hazel H. (Spencer) LaBounty. She was a graduate of Concord High School. On December 30, 1946, she married Roland O. Daniels. For several years Betty taught music at Groton High School in Groton, VT. Though she was a homemaker while her children grew up, when the "nest" was empty, she worked at Hovey's Shop in Woodsville, NH. She is remembered by all who knew her as a loyal wife and mother. Whenever the kids came home from school they would always be met by "mom". This, her children recall, was most comforting. When she entered a room everyone knew Betty had arrived, for her voice was quite pronounced and recognizable and heard above all others it seems. Her propensity for work was well known. She was always in forward motion whether around the house or in activities elsewhere. To Betty, work was next to godliness, and so was cleanliness. Her house had a flawless appearance, for there was never a speck of dirt or dust to be found. She was stylish in appearance and well put together, always. Betty was a member of The First Baptist Church of Groton, VT.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roland O. Daniels on March 13, 1998; a son, Thomas W. Daniels on August 9, 1990; her four sisters, Thelma Mozzarella, Edna John, Vernabelle Wilmot, and Wava Brier; and her two brothers, Winston and Howard LaBounty.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Louise White and husband, Dr. James White of Hanover Park, IL; a son, Rev. John "Jack" Daniels and wife Becky of West Newfield, ME; thirteen grandchildren and over twenty-five great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Friday, January 29 from 11 AM- 1 PM with a funeral service immediately following at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Pastor Dennis Walton of The First Baptist Church of Groton, officiating. Burial will be in the Groton Village Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church, PO Box 128, Groton, VT 05046.
