Obituary

Bettyjane Ann Newton

April 15, 1943- September 9,2020

Bettyjane Ann Newton passed away suddenly on September 9, 2020 with her husband Mervin

Newton by her side. She is survived by her husband Mervin and their three sons Kent, Doug

and Mark and their wives and partners Greg, Laura, and Chrissy, respectively. She leaves

behind Emma and Michael, her beloved grandchildren, and brother David and his wife Susan.

"BJ" was born in Northhampton, MA to Edward and Julianna Waskiewicz and was raised in

Amherst MA where she attended high school. She attended Plymouth State College in NH and

later NH College (now SNHU) where she received a certificate in Secretarial Studies. This is

where Bettyjane and Mervin first met.

BJ and Merv. settled in Milford NH where they lived for 43 years. This is where they started a

business and raised their three children. BJ worked at Milford Cooperative Bank, Milford

Insurance and with Mervin D Newton, CPA. Bettyjane was a member of Milford Lioness where

she worked on the Scholarship committee. She volunteered at SHARE, a community

organization serving families in need for over 40 years.

Bettyjane and Mervin had a full and active life. They were always working on a project. They

restored and lived in multiple homes in Warren, Milford, York ME and Cape Coral FL. They

wintered in Hawaii, Arizona, and finally in Pine Island, FL. BJ loved to entertain. She was very

organized and loved nothing more then to "Plan" a Get together. Whether it was dinner with a

friend, or a family reunion, BJ loved to make arrangements, plan a menu, and then assign

guests what they were to bring. BJ loved to cook. There wasn't a day that passed that she

didn't print a couple of "New" recipes that she would try out at a later date. The only channel

on TV she loved was the Cooking Channel. For BJ "Food=Love". She shared her love of food

with her three sons teaching them to cook and how to entertain. Bettyjane was proud of her

Polish heritage and passed on her Polish culinary traditions. Mark Newton was so inspired by

his mother's love of cooking that he graduated from SNHU Culinary College and now enjoys a

position as Director of the Hot Lunch Program at Souhegan High School in Amherst NH.

Bettyjane saved a newspaper clipping that her own mother kept on the windowsill above the

sink by Helen Rice Steiner. That clipping traveled to each of her homes and was always in the

kitchen nearby. Its message and permanence says so much about the woman she was and how

she loved her family.

A Mother's love is something that no one can explain,

It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain,

It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may

For nothing can destroy it or take that love away…

It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking,

And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking…

It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns,

And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems…

It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation,

And it still remains a secret, like the mysteries of creation…

A many splendored miracle man cannot understand

And another wonderous evidence of God's tender guiding hand.

BJ's cheery smile and kind eyes will be missed but not forgotten. Her wishes were to be

cremated and buried at Riverside Cemetery in the Waskiewicz Family plot with her mother and

father. There are no services at this time.

A memorial service will be planned for the spring. Details to come.
