Newbury, VT Boyd Arthur Sam Longley, 78, died unexpectedly May 11, 2013 at his home in Newbury. He was born in Rutland, VT, June 27, 1934, a son of Arthur Sullivan and Susan (Boyd) Longley. Sam was a dairy farmer who, for 21 years, worked for Paul Gallerani in Bradford purchasing cattle across Vermont and New Hampshire. He later farmed for Don Moore and then at the Kempton Farm in Peacham, VT. For the past several years he milked for Richard Morris on the Gamblin Farm in Haverhill. Recently, he served as a volunteer with RCT Transportation out of St. Johnsbury, VT. Sam was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed camping, watching old Western movies, vegetable gardening, and going out to eat with family and friends, especially at family gatherings. Sam was first married to Marjorie Moses and she predeceased him in 1999. He was also predeceased by two daughters Linda Manning and Darla Longley and a sister Mary. Survivors include his wife Valerie Longley of Newbury, to whom he was married on August 12, 2000; three daughters, Roxanna Paige and husband Logan of Thetford Center, VT, Frances Gomez and husband David of Yucca Valley, CA, Lisa Harris and husband Randy of Piermont, NH; two sons, Glenn Longley and wife Patricia of Waterford, VT and Todd Longley and wife Cindy of Springfield, NH; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; six sisters, Anna, Faustina, Neola, Beatrice, Bonnie and Loretta; three brothers, Howell, Raymond, and Leighton; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 15, from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Woodsville, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. In keeping with Sam s wishes, burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
