Obituary

Brenda Lynne (Thorburn) Amnott (81) of Pike, NH, passed away at her daughter’s home in Walls, MS, on August 14th, 2026, due to natural causes.

Brenda was born on November 15, 1944, to James and Verna (Dennis) Thorburn. She grew up with two siblings, Sharon Emerson and Dean Thorburn. She graduated from Haverhill Academy in Haverhill, NH.

She went to Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, Massachusetts. There she met her husband, Raymond Linwood Amnott. She studied education to become a teacher. Brenda and Ray were married on August 6, 1966. They went on to have three children: Lynne, Shelley, and James.

Brenda was a devout follower of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She supported her husband as he pastored churches of the Advent Christian denomination in Vermont, New York, and West Virginia. She served with grace and hospitality, often hosting many families from church and partnership teams over the years. Many got to enjoy her home-cooked dinners. She enjoyed playing the organ and/or piano where Ray served. She taught Sunday School and served in women’s ministry. She continued playing piano and organ when they later attended church in Newbury, VT.

Along with serving in the church, she often worked outside the home as a teacher and caregiver. Many people will remember her as a dedicated teacher, and several children learned to read because of her dedication.

Her own children not only benefited from her teaching skills but knew her as a devoted mother who lived sacrificially to give much to them. Perhaps her greatest legacy is that her children and grandchildren learned to love Jesus and are committed to serving in churches where they live. Her grandchildren seek to pass on that legacy to her great-grandchildren.

Later in life, Ray and Brenda moved back to the area where she was born and raised, to live in Pike, NH. She taught at the Newbury Christian School for several years. From there, she went on to work at Haverhill Cooperative Middle School in North Haverhill, NH as one of the Title 1 teachers. She also tutored many children after school throughout her time as a teacher. After retiring, she continued to volunteer at the middle school helping students.

She is predeceased by her father, James Thorburn; her mother, Verna (Dennis) Thorburn; her husband, Raymond Linwood Amnott; and her brother, Dean Thorburn.

She is survived by her sister, Sharon Emerson; her daughter, Lynne and spouse Patrick Butler; her daughter, Shelley and spouse Christopher Accardy; and her son, James and spouse Darlene Amnott. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Rachel and spouse Joshua Page, Elizabeth Accardy, Hannah Accardy, Beth and spouse Noah Siano, Robert and spouse Nicole Butler, Matthew and spouse Kiah Accardy, Mackenzie Amnott, Riley Amnott, Kendal Amnott, and Ethan Amnott. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Carter Accardy, Sterling Accardy, Sedona Butler, Caspar Siano, and Raymond (RJ) Page.

A celebration of life will occur at Newbury Bible Church on September 20th, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
