Obituary

Bruce William “Rooster” Darling, 81, of Ryegate, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. Born on April 14, 1945, Bruce lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for sports, racing, and community.

Bruce was the beloved son of the late Shirlie Ruth Haskell Darling and Gerald Russell “Tinker” Darling. Known affectionately to many as “Rooster,” he was admired for his sense of humor, generous heart, and the strong friendships he built throughout his life.

Bruce proudly served in the National Guard and spent many years working in construction and for the Town of Ryegate before following his passion and starting his own business, Darling Trucking. Truck driving was more than a career to Bruce — it was something he truly loved.

As a young man, Bruce played basketball for Groton High School and remained a lifelong sports enthusiast. He especially loved helping and supporting his children in their sports activities over the years. Bruce also loved to hunt and enjoyed spending time with his children sharing those experiences and creating lifelong memories. Bruce enjoyed watching sports and was an avid NASCAR fan, spending many Thursday nights at Thunder Road International Speedbowl and Saturday nights at the races in Plattsburgh.

Bruce treasured time spent with friends, whether gathered at the sugar house or enjoying a night at the racetrack. Some of the family’s most cherished memories were made around the dining room table, where Bruce loved playing cribbage and cards with his children while sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom that will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Paula Bullard, and her daughter Amy; his brother, Jeffrey Darling and wife Gayle, along with their daughters Jessica, her son Colin and daughter Adalyn, and Katelyn and husband Chris; and his children, Scott Darling and wife Katie, Todd Darling, Jessica Darling, and Sonja Darling and husband Chris. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to Brandon, Trevor, Eugene and wife Dorothy, Maleia, Jake, Kortney, Hayden, Emily, Lukis, Rory, and Kenzleigh. He also leaves behind cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Bruce will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he passed down, and the countless memories created with those he loved most.

In honor of Bruce’s wishes, there will be no service.
