Carmen
Jordan
January 21, 2023
Carmen Marie Doe Jordan, a resident of Wells River, VT, passed away at age 74 at the Frances Atkinson Home in Newbury, VT, on January 21, 2023, after a long illness. She was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on January 23, 1948. She spent her early childhood in South Ryegate, VT, and grew up in Woodsville, NH. She was predeceased by her father, Bernard Elmer Doe; mother, Candis Achilles Doe; and sister Sharon Sonya Doe. She is survived by her brother, Bernard Wayne Doe and wife, Cynthia Tokiko Doe, of Burke VA; and their two sons, Stephen and Matthew, also of Virginia. Carmen is also survived by her two step-daughters, Jody and husband Cosme; Regan and husband Terry; and grandchildren, Ryleigh and Destin, all of Tennessee.
Carmen graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1966, and graduated with honors from Fisher College, Boston, MA. She was employed by Norwich University, Norwich, VT, and later worked in Vermont State Government in the Office of Development and Community Affairs in Montpelier, VT. She founded and operated Earth Construction Company and Green Mountain Crushing Company in Groton, VT, with her ex-husband, Rodney Jordan. An earlier marriage to Allen Goodine ended in divorce.
Carmen was a warm, loving person with a deep Christian faith. She served several years on the Board of Directors of The Fold, a Christian organization in northern Vermont which supported troubled teens and families in crisis. Her strong work ethic kept her very busy, but she always, first and foremost, devoted herself to supporting and caring for her family. She was a long-time member of the Newbury Bible Church in Newbury, VT, and served the Lord as office manager there for many years.
Carmen loved the verdant hills, valleys and farmlands of Ryegate and Groton. She enjoyed travelling the back roads in all seasons to take in the natural beauty of the places she had known and treasured throughout her life. She loved music and enjoyed singing and dancing.
Carmen will be laid to rest with a graveside ceremony in the Doe family lot in Pinehurst Cemetery, South Ryegate, VT, in mid-June. The family thanks the Bayada Hospice of Norwich, VT for their dedicated care and kindness. The family would be most grateful for any donations in Carmen's memory made to a charity of your choice.
