Obituary

Carol Robie passed away after a period of declining health on February 7th, 2022.

Born in 1955 in Waterbury, CT, Carol was the daughter of John Colby and Carilyn (Benjamin) Colby. She saw her future husband at an assembly in the auditorium at the Bradford Academy in 1971 and thought, "I am going to marry that man," and that she did. She graduated from Oxbow High School in 1973 and married the love of her life, Scott Robie, in Bradford, VT, in 1974.

Scott built their house in Piermont, NH, and that was where they raised their two daughters, Melanie and Laurale. Carol was an incredible mother, teaching "the girls" the values of humility, doing for others, and the importance of having a strong work ethic, as well as imparting in them the magic of the Christmas spirit.

Carol was overjoyed to become a grandmother seven years ago. She taught Kameron songs and rhymes, put together Lego sets, hid Matchbox cars around the house for him to find, and proved to be the fiercest Beyblade competitor. Carol, lovingly named "The Christmas Nazi," passed along her love of Christmas to her grandson who now keeps a lit Christmas tree in his room year-round.

Carol will be profoundly missed by all the people whose lives she touched. She found great joy in helping others. Each fall, Carol's kitchen became an apple pie factory for charities, she fundraised for the Lupus Foundation, surprised friends, family, and co-workers constantly with the perfect collectible or trinket from a yard sale, baked casseroles for families going through difficult times, and always knew just the right thing to do or say to help.

In her life, she worked in Bradford, VT, as a swim instructor at Baldwin Bridge and typeset for the Journal Opinion, worked in Lyme, NH, at C. Colby Bent Insurance Agency, but spent the majority of her career, 35+ years, doing graphic design at Upper Valley Press in North Haverhill, NH.

Carol was an accomplished woods woman. Her family knew nothing important could be scheduled in the spring as that time of year was dedicated to moose shed hunting. She experienced many bear encounters while off-trail hiking in the Great North Woods on her own with a map and compass, loved to kayak on Millsfield Pond and on the Connecticut River, hike with Scott and their dogs, and was the most patient fisher woman, staying out in her kayak until her limit was caught, no matter the weather or if her legs fell asleep. She loved yearly beach trips to York, Maine, with her daughters, camp weekends and shed hunting with Robie's Angels, family marathon Christmas shopping trips, throwing big family Christmas parties, and buying Yankee Swap gag gifts for the adults and toys for the kids, penny socials, going to yard sales, and spending time with her family.

Most of all, Carol loved her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Scott Robie, her dogs Sammie and Levi, her daughters Melanie (Robie) Cook and Laurale Robie, son-in-law Nathaniel Cook, grandson Kameron Cook, her mother Carilyn Colby, siblings John Colby, Craig Colby, and Kathy Corriveau (Clement Corriveau), Scott's siblings Bryan Robie, Eileen Belyea (Roy Belyea), and Joan Robie-Dieter (Paul Dieter), as well as the extended Robie and Colby families, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. She was pre-deceased by her father John Colby Sr, her mother-in-law Verna Robie, her father-in-law Keith Robie, and her brother-in-law Dwight Robie.

Carol's Celebration of Life will be held later in the year in warmer weather.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made in Carol's honor to facilities that provide mental health services.
