Piermont, NH Caroline (Batchelder) Kelly French, 94, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at The Pines, Lyndonville, VT. She was born in Haverhill, NH February 26, 1920, a daughter of William and Martha (Clifford) Batchelder. Kelly, as she was known to many, lived in Piermont for many years where she was active in the community. She volunteered her time, energy, and talents at the Piermont Village School, was involved in the Piermont Library, and also worked on fundraising efforts for Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. She also attended the Piermont Congregational Church and regularly participated in church functions and activities. Kelly was an outstanding cook and baker who loved the Christmas season and baking for family and friends. Following the death of her husband Chester L. French in 1985, she relocated to the Laconia, NH area, living closer to her sister Janet Cummings. While living there, she was active in the First Methodist Church of Gilford, NH. In the late 1990 s she relocated to Fairlee, VT, and later to the Atkinson Home in Newbury, VT, before her final move to The Pines in Lyndonville, VT. Kelly was a caregiver, always ready and willing to help others, in a non judgemental, gracious, loving way. She continued to maintain close relationships with her granddaughters, Jennifer and Carmen. She was predeceased by her husband Chester in 1985, her son William Bill French on October 29, 2014, her sister Janet Cummings and husband Clem, and a brother William Batchelder, who was killed in Pearl Harbor. Survivors include her son Ernest French of Indiana, two granddaughters Carmen Gross and husband Daniel of East Corinth, VT, and Jennifer Dunn of Lincoln, NH, eight great grandchildren Brittany, Casey, Mason Makana, Michael, Demi, Austin and Connor, a niece Joyce Keyser and husband Jeff of Gilford, NH, along with their daughter Cassidy, and a nephew Peter Cummings of Lancaster, NH. There will be no calling hours. A graveside burial service will be on May 23, 2015, at 11 AM in the South Lawn Cemetery, Piermont, NH with Rev. Mal Kircher officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Piermont Village School or to the Piermont Congregational Church, Piermont, NH 03279.
