McIndoe Falls, VT- Carolyn Ruth Nichols, 103, died on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH. Carolyn was born in McIndoe Falls, VT, September 20, 1911, a daughter of Darwin M. and Joanna (Duncan) Nichols. Carolyn graduated from the University of Vermont and Boston University. She served with U.S. Navy Waves during Word War II. Carolyn was a school teacher for seven years in East Barnet, VT and then went to Waltham, MA to teach the sixth grade. Carolyn was a member of the McIndoes Community Church and the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Carolyn was well traveled. She spent her winters in Sebring and Holiday, FL, and summer seasons on the Cape. She spent much of her time traveling with her dear friends Mildred and Stan Andrews. She will be fondly remembered for her upbeat agreeable disposition. She was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Somerville, Elizabeth White, and Lois Nichols; and a brother, Darwin Nichols, Jr. Carolyn is survived by her niece, Carol Morrison of McIndoe Falls and Lady Lake, FL; and by her two nephews, Robert White and wife Elaine of New York, New York and Thomas White and wife Carol T. of Los Angeles, CA. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the McIndoes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
