Obituary

Newbury, VT Cecil Delmar Ross, 97, a resident of Newbury since 1946, died July 19, 2009, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. Cecil was born in Hanson, MA, November 11, 1911, the son of R. Donald and Clara Morton (Ford) Ross. He retired in 1974 from the Boston & Maine Railroad as a conductor and yardmaster in White River Junction, VT. During World War II he worked in the South Portland, ME shipyard. Cecil was a member of the First Congregational Church of Newbury, Pulaski Lodge # 58 F&AM of Wells River, VT, Mt. Sinai Shrine Temple of Montpelier, VT, and the Clan Ross Association of the United States. He was an avid golfer and for many years was a member of the Bradford Golf Club. He married the former Arline Booth on March 1, 1936, in Lewiston, ME. Survivors include his wife of 73 years Arline; a daughter, Patricia R. VanWagoner of Epping, NH, and a son, Stephen B. Ross and wife Virginia of South Ryegate, VT; five grandsons, David E. VanLuven and wife Isabelle Bleecker, Mark C. VanLuven, Jeremy M. Ross and wife Carrie, Timothy A. Ross and fiance Emily McMahon, and Brian G. Ross; and three great granddaughters. He was predeceased by his sister, Elsie Roddy. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Friday, July 24, at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury.
