Bath, NH – Cecil William Smith Sr., 65, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at his home unexpectedly.He was born in Alexandria, VA on September 21, 1953 a son of Reginald B. and Evelyn A. (Irwin) Smith. Cecil was raised in North Haverhill, and was a 1971 graduate of Woodsville High School. He attended Plymouth State College graduating with dual degrees. He was fluent in both Chinese and Spanish. Cecil served in the U. S. Army as an Intelligence Officer from 1972-1992. During that time he was stationed in California, Texas, Hawaii, Maryland and twice in Korea. He retired in 1992 as a Major with the Airborne Rangers. Returning home to North Haverhill in 1995 he joined the Haverhill Police Department and retired from that career in 2010 as the Chief of Police. He married Suzette Beaulieu on October 31, 1998.Cecil enjoyed running, biking, entering triathlons and was an avid reader. After retirement he enjoyed his gentleman's farm, "The Hen Pecked Farm",raising animals. Cecil had a strong interest in renewable energy and tinkering. He possessed a very driven personality.He was predeceased by his parents Evelyn on March 30, 2010, his father Reginald on March 23, 2014, his brother Gary and a baby sister. Survivors include his wife Suzette of Bath, four sons Cecil W. "Herm" Smith, Jr and his wife Joy of Warren, NH, Gary R. Smith and his wife Heather of Warren, NH, twin sons Phillip R. Blanchard and wife Stacie of North Haverhill, and Peter J. Blanchard and Desi of North Haverhill, 9 grandchildren, Emily, Lauren, Lexa, Maximus, Zoe, Paige, Jase, Jarrett and Molly, two sisters Carol L. Aaron and husband Dave of Bradenton, FL, and Regina S. Weeks of Cohoes, NY, and a brother Joseph M Smith and wife Heidi of Charlestown, NH, also several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 12 to the time of the service at 2 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will begin at 2 PMwith his sister-in-law Rev. Heidi Smith officiating.
The burial will take place in the spring in Center Haverhill Cemetery.
