Charles H. Bailey, 90, formerly of Newbury, VT, most recently residing in Barre, VT, passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. He was born on May 29, 1935, in Woodsville, NH, to Alice (Dodge) and Elmer Bailey.
He attended school in Newbury, class of 1953. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in 1957. Charles then became a dairy farmer and worked on the family farm until 1988, when he retired from farming. After that, he was a custodial engineer for both Oxbow High School and the Haverhill School District.
Charles was also very civic-minded and volunteered at several organizations. He was a 4-H leader and on the Newbury Congregational Church Investment Committee. He was a trustee for the Oxbow Cemetery Association and a member of the Town Budget Committee. Charles also spent 6 years serving on the original Oxbow School board and an additional 6 years on the Newbury School Board.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Elmer Bailey, and, most recently, by his sister, Joyce Bailey, who passed away on April 5, 2026.
He will be remembered by his brother, Sidney Bailey and his wife Linda, of South Barre, VT; his niece, Kathleen Bailey of Barre, VT; his nephew, Michael Bailey of Williamstown, VT; and his great nephews, Jacob and Joshua Melendy of Barre, VT, and James Bailey of Bethlehem, NH; and a great niece Emily Pierce of Williamstown, VT.
A combined funeral service for Charlie and Joyce will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 1 PM, at Ricker Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Woodsville, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, NH, with interment to follow at Oxbow Cemetery in Newbury, VT.
