Obituary

Newbury, VT – Charles B. Emerson, 84, passed away at home on Sunday, April 28, 2024. He was born on July 3, 1939, in Newbury, VT, to Edith (Bartlett) and Charles "Warren" Emerson.

Charles married the love of his life, Marilyn (Powers) on July 30, 1958, and they had four children, Carl, Alan, Neil, and Janice. Over the years he worked many jobs: in factories, construction, as a mechanic, he was a trucker, and a logger which was his life passion.

He loved to hunt, watching NASCAR, and he loved baseball – whether it was just watching a game, coaching a little league team, or playing slow pitch. He proudly supported and cheered on his own grandchildren in their sports. He also really loved a good family cookout.

In his golden years, he worked on and restored old tractors. However, his biggest accomplishment was his loving family, the family that he and Marilyn created together.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Marilyn Emerson on March 28, 2018; his parents Charles and Edith Emerson; his brothers, Lawrence Emerson, Philip Emerson, and Russell Emerson; his sister, Rachel Emerson; and a son-in-law, Rick Benoit.

He is survived by his children, Carl Emerson of Newbury, VT, Alan Emerson and wife Linda of Hinesburg, VT, Neil Emerson and wife Amy of South Ryegate, VT, and Janice Duvall and husband Kurt of Walden, VT; his grandchildren, Danielle, Brittany, Kevin, Richie, Katie, Maggie and Will; his great-grandchildren, Audrey, Mia, Gavin, Jackson, Cole, Lennox, Weston, Parker, Anthoni, Mackenna, and Ricky; a sister, Phyllis Hayward of Chelsea, VT; and lots of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 10 AM, at the Groton Village Cemetery with Brian Emerson officiating.
