Wells River, VT – Charles William Gadwah, 89, of Water Street, died Sunday, August 27, 2017, at his home, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Center Haverhill, NH, July 1, 1928, a son of Leslie P. and Maude M. (Gould) Gadwah.  Charlie served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946.

Charlie married Patricia L. Clark on June 5, 1954.  In 1956, he started his fifty eight year career with W. E. Jock Oil Company in Wells River, delivering oil to the area until his retirement in 2014.  Charlie and his good friend Chuck Engle had painted houses in the area for many years.  He was a member of the Pulaski Lodge F&AM #58 in Wells River.  Charlie enjoyed hunting with his friends, Joey Schoenstein and Benny Rose, fishing at Camp Labette in Canada, and playing cards on Friday nights.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.  His impeccable work ethic was featured as a super senior on WCAX a few years ago.

He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Brock.

Survivors include his wife of sixty three years, Patricia L. Gadwah of Wells River; a son, Peter C. Gadwah and wife Penny of South Hero, VT and their children, Danielle and Patrick Gadwah; a daughter, Laurie A. O'Rourke and husband Harry of Castleton, VT and their daughter, Kaci O'Rourke.  He is also survived by his Jock Oil family, Chuck Engle, Susie Acheson, and "Pudge" Engle; his very dear friend, Steve Wheeler; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be on Friday, September 1, at 1 PM at the Wells River Cemetery, Wells River, VT with Rev. Betty Ann Brock, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity that was dear to Charlie's heart in assisting seniors with fuel oil bills.  Memorial Contributions may be sent to Jock Oil Company, C/O Susie Acheson, 22 Main Street, Wells River, VT 05081.
