Obituary

Charles Nelson Sackett Sr., 83,of Warren, passed away on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

Charles was born on December 2, 1937 to Marie Thelma (Jackson) Sackett and Nelson George Sackett in Erie, Pennsylvania. He grew up with one brother and one sister, Bill and Margaret.

Charles attended McDowell High School in Erie before joining the National Guard in 1954, and then joining the United States Air Force in in 1955.  He was stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts, which brought him to Ware, Massachusetts, where he would meet his future wife, Janice Marie Ball in 1956.  Charles was in the Air Force until May 2, 1959, and he married Janice on July 2, 1960 in Janice's hometown of Warren, NH.   They started their family together in Erie, PA, and in May of 1967 they moved to Warren.

Charles began working for the State of New Hampshire at the Glencliff Home in July of 1967, then retired as a Grounds Supervisor in 1997.  He was proud to work in the public sector, serving as President of the SEA chapter 9 for many years.  Charles also served as president of the Warren PTO, as well as President of the Board of Directors for local Cub Scout Pack # 363. He was a Webelo leader, a member of the Knights of Pythias, and a lifetime member of the Warren Historical Society.

Charles co-owned "The Movie Place" for over 10 years and developed a love for technology.  One if his many hobbies throughout his retirement was making DVD's telling stories of local and family history.  He became well known for his video's and short stories that he would post on Facebook, along with historical facts and pictures of Warren.  Charles also worked in his retirement maintaining the grounds for Camp Moosilauke for Boys in Orford, NH.

Charles was an avid sports fan, never missing a Patriots game.  He also loved the Red Sox, Celtics, and of course the Boston Bruins, but none as much as he loved Belichick!

Charles was incredibly proud of his six boys and the family that he and Janice had together and loved most the times that they could all get together.

Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice of Warren.  Five sons, Chuck Jr. and wife Heather of Warren, Brad and wife Cindy of Limington, Maine, Tim and wife Lorie of Warren, Terry and wife Julie of Plymouth, and Bill of Warren.  He had 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, a special sister-in-law in Erie PA, and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved son, Norman Leslie Sackett on January 10,2000, as well as his brother William, his sister Margaret, and a nephew, Christopher.

There will be a graveside service at the Glencliff Cemetery for family on Friday July 2, 2021 at 11am, followed by a celebration of life at the Warren Town Hall at Noon.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:  The Norman Sackett Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Wells River Savings Bank, 47 Main Street North Wells River, VT 05081.
