Cheryl G
Mitchell
August 2, 1946 – April 25, 2026
Cheryl G. Mitchell, 79, of Newbury, VT, passed away on April 25, 2026, after a period of failing health. She was born August 2, 1946 in Lawrence, Ma., and raised in Salem, N. H., the daughter of Corinne (Dushame) and Robert A. Mitchell, 1964 graduate of Woodbury High School, Cheryl enjoyed a typical 1950's childhood of babysitting, delivering papers for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune, and developed an independent streak that served her well in her 23 years with Trans World Airlines. In 1966, she became a Flight Attendant based in Kansas City, MO, subsequently transferring back to Boston.
In 1972 she moved to San Francisco and became a Flight Service Manager on TWA's widebody aircraft. She was recognized for her leadership position and eventually was promoted to a Supervisor of Flight Attendants. Due to downsizing and furloughs, she transferred to JFK. A program instituted to identify employees who demonstrated "corporate upward mobility", Cheryl was temporarily assigned the job of Staff Analyst at Inflight Services Operations. Her 15 years of "on line" experience brought valuable insight to the practical applications of some of the ideas the Ivory Tower wanted to institute in flight. Eventually she secured the job.
Many changes in airline ownership occurred and an Inflight Sales Department was formed where she was promoted to Manager of Domestic Inflight Sales. In 1989, Cheryl saw the direction the industry was taking and felt she had reached her "level of incompetence" and decided to leave TWA.
Moving back to NH, she finally settled in Newbury, VT, bought a home built in 1783 and proceeded to rehabilitate it and discovered many original features.
Survived by a brother, Brian Mitchell, and his wife Virginia, of Melbourne, FL; a sister, Laurie Mitchell of Warren, NH; and her companion of 28 years, Michael Grossinger of Newbury, VT. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and her parents.
Cheryl, when learning of her cancer diagnosis, was asked about her bucket list, and her reply was that she pretty much did everything anyone could want to see or do during her life. Small memories are the sum total of everyone's moments on earth, and she had a plane load of them.
There will be no public services. Those who wish, may make donations in Cheyrl’s memory to, Grafton Co. Nursing Home Residents Fund.
