Groton , VT- Christopher "Chris" Wellman, 69, of Goodfellow Road , died on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville , NH .

Chris was born in Brattleboro , VT , on November 3, 1946, to Henry D. and Ellen (Weaver) Wellman. He was a graduate of Brattleboro High School , then of Lyndon State College with his Bachelor's Degree. On October 21, 1966, he married Sally Cripps.

Chris was a school teacher at the Groton School and then taught fifth grade at the Blue Mountain Union School . For twenty-five years, he worked as a stonecutter for Rock of Ages in Barre , VT. A passionate sportsman, he ran Wellman Sports from his home for twenty years.

Chris is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sally Wellman of Groton; two children, Bret Wellman and wife Cindy of North Haverhill, NH and Melissa Battersby and husband Lance of Allentown, PA; two grandchildren, Megan Rizzo and husband Scott and their family, Ryder and Harper of East Corinth, VT and Kirk Lawson of Groton; a sister, Linda Kellaher of Connecticut; and a brother, Henry "Puffer" Wellman of Florida.

He was predeceased by a brother, Howard S. Wellman.

In keeping with Chris's wishes, there will be no public services.
