Groton, VT- Christie G. Hersey, 82, a former longtime resident of Montpelier, VT and currently of Glover Road, died unexpectedly at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT on Sunday, December 7, 2014. Christie was born on February 8, 1932, in Ryegate, VT to Kenneth and Jane (Heath) Murray. She was a graduate of Groton High School and Vermont College in Montpelier. She married Clifton B. Cliff Hersey on November 29, 1957. During her working career, Christie served as secretary to the Dean of Vermont College in Montpelier and later was secretary at Montpelier High School. She later established a day care in the Montpelier area from 1968 until 1999. In 2001, she and Cliff moved from Montpelier to Groton. Christie was a member of the DAR. She enjoyed cooking, watching wildlife, berry picking and apple picking. She was famous for her baked beans. She thoroughly enjoyed her Tuesday morning get-togethers with the girls at the P&H Truck Stop in Wells River. She loved her granddaughter, Katelyn. Following the death of her mother and due to her father s poor health, Christie went to live with her sister, Jessie Welch and husband Harry and she considered them as her Mother and Dad. Christie was predeceased by her sisters, Jessie Welch, Annie Page, Roberta Gibson, and Hazel Lancaster, and her brothers, Kenneth, Norman, Donald, and Robert Murray. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cliff Hersey of Groton; a daughter, Tamara Hersey of Montpelier; a son, Mark Hersey of Worcester, VT; a granddaughter, Katelyn Hersey of Montpelier; a sister, Margaret Strobridge of Essex, VT; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Sunday, December 14 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be on Monday, December 15 at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Howard Gaston, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Groton Village Cemetery.
