Obituary

Christopher “Chris” Roy, 42, of Newbury, VT, originally of Taunton, MA, passed away surrounded by his family after a courageous two-year battle with cancer, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Born in Taunton, MA, on January 12, 1984, and raised in Pawtucket, RI, Chris was the son of the late William “Bill” Roy of Attleboro and Sharon Roy of Newbury. Chris was a lifelong sports fan and athlete. He played baseball throughout most of his youth before transitioning into umpiring youth baseball in Northern Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. When he was not officiating, Chris simply loved being around the game, especially cheering on his beloved Boston Red Sox.

Chris was also a consummate entertainer, something most evident during his time as a professional wrestler in New England. Performing under the ring name “Chris Dozer,” he became a familiar face in independent professional wrestling throughout the region. He was especially well known as both a singles and tag team competitor in the Renegade Wrestling Alliance, based out of North Providence, Rhode Island.

In all that he did, Chris was not just present, he was a force. Friends and family alike knew him as the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was always willing to teach younger people the ropes, whether in baseball, wrestling, or life itself. He was the kind of man who would drop what he was doing to help a friend, answer a call, lend an ear, or offer advice. Chris had a presence that made people feel comfortable, valued, and welcome, and his loyalty to those he loved never wavered.

Most importantly, Chris believed his greatest calling in life was not found in a job title, a spotlight, or any personal accomplishment, but in being a husband and a father. Of all the roles he filled in his life, those were the ones he cherished most. He was a devoted and loving husband to Stefanie Murphy and a deeply dedicated father to Anthony, Zachary, Trinity, and Bradley. Chris gave himself fully to his family and took immense pride in providing for them, supporting them, guiding them, and loving them with his whole heart. His family was the center of his world, and everything he did was done with them in mind.

Whether through his strength, his guidance, his sacrifice, or his steady presence, Chris showed his love not only in words, but in action. He understood that being a husband and father meant showing up every day, and that is exactly what he did. The love he gave his family, and the example he set for them, will remain his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Stefanie Murphy; his four children, Anthony, Zachary, Trinity, and Bradley; his mother, Sharon Roy; his brother, William Roy II; seven nephews; three nieces; and a multitude of friends across the country whose lives were made better simply by knowing this giant of a man. He was predeceased by his father, William “Bill” Roy.

Services will be held at a later date in accordance with the family’s wishes.
