Obituary

Clarence E. Thayer Jr. "Junior", 77, Woodsville, died on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with family at his side.

He was born on September 10, 1946, in Woodsville, NH to Clarence E. Sr. and Mabel (Brill) Thayer. Junior grew up in Woodsville, graduating from Woodsville High School with the class of 1965.  He enlisted in the US Army after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1967.

He married Marion Wright on June 2, 1967, at the Woodsville United Methodist Church.  Together they made their home in Woodsville and raised two children.  Clarence worked for a couple of years at the papermill in Lincoln, NH, before finding work as a cable splicer with New England Telephone.  He retired in 1995.  He was a firefighter in Woodsville for many years, serving as Chief from 1977 to 1978. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He and Marion spent a lot of time traveling the country in their RV.

Junior is predeceased by his parents, and a sister Shirley Fullerton.  He is survived by his wife, Marion Thayer of Woodsville, NH, a son Clarence E. Thayer III "Eddie" and his wife Charleen of Portsmouth, VA, a daughter Kim Thayer of Bethlehem, NH, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Patricia Thayer of North Haverhill, NH.

Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from Noon to 4 PM at the American Legion in Woodsville.
