Obituary

Clarence Joseph Farris, of Woodsville, NH  died peacefully December 2, 2021 with several of his children by his side, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon N.H, only 19 days shy of celebrating his 93rd birthday.

"Chuck" was born to Sista Mendoza and Carl John Farris, in Maude, OK. The family moved to Texas for a time and then with his mother and siblings to California after his father left the family.

He learned to work hard and do whatever job was available to help support his mother and siblings. He built his own shoeshine box and shined shoes on a busy street corner in the city. He seated patrons at the movie theater in L.A. and did odd jobs for neighbors. He left high school to serve his country, later completing his GED taking night courses.

Chuck served in the Navy from 1948-1952 including a voyage around Cape Horn aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany CV-34. A Navy buddy introduced him to Frances Ethel Bailey of South Ryegate, VT. The couple married on April 21, 1953 and raised five children in California. Chuck worked several jobs in addition to his employment at the US Postal Service. Family time, be it the desert, the beach or the mountains was how he enjoyed spending his weekends. He also loved gardening wherever he lived. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his sister Madeline Neal, and brothers Edward and Frank Farris.

Chuck is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael (Marilyn) Farris of South Ryegate, VT, Glenn  (Jeanine) Farris of Weare, NH, James (Christine)  Farris of Mont Vernon, NH, Deborah (Scott) Marsh of Orford, NH and Jannette (Randy) Minard, of Pembroke ME., 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives.
