Cleora "Cindy" (Porter) Simonds, 89, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, at the home of her daughter in North Haverhill, NH. She was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire on September 18, 1934, to Mary Frances and Frank Porter and lived her childhood years in White River Jct., VT with her two brothers Robert Porter and Perry Porter. She graduated from Hartford High School and completed the Airline Steward program at the Lebanon Airport and married Nelson Simonds on February 3, 1956. Most of her years were lived in her home in Wells River, Vermont where she was the owner/manager of Ashwood Motor Court renting rooms and motel units to traveling tourists and hunters for over 25 years. She was also a part-time Orange County Deputy Sheriff during her years in Wells River. Directing traffic for road details and transporting female prisoners and keeping the peace as backup for her husband, Nelson, Orange County Chief Deputy Sheriff. Cindy liked to travel and spent time in Phoenix, AZ and Mt. Dora, FL in the winter months. Cindy was one of the many people who traveled to Belgium with the Bradford Evangelical Free Church to help build a church for the local parishioners. She retired and moved to Scotch Hollow Rd., Newbury, VT in 1985, where she enjoyed the birds and her many flower gardens.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Simonds Eastman, North Haverhill, NH, grandson Jamie Eastman, wife Hannah, Holliston, MA and grandson Dylan Eastman, wife Destiny, Dover, DE, grandson Devin Simonds, Burkeville, TX. Brother, Perry Porter, wife Brenda, Plainfield, NH, Sister-in- law Beverly Porter, White River Jct., VT and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nelson Simonds, son, Daniel Simonds, daughter, Julie Quintin and her brother, Robert Porter.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency, 536 Cottage Street., Littleton, NH 03561.
There will be a private burial service with the immediate family at a later date.
