Obituary

The Villages, FL – Cyrus Eastman Rosa, 68, formerly of South Ryegate, VT, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.

"Cy" was born in Haverhill, NH, August 24, 1949, a son of Americo L. Rosa and Bernardine A. (Eastman) Rosa, and grew up in South Ryegate, VT.  He attended the local elementary school in South Ryegate, then went to Woodsville High School.  Cy always showed a soft-spot for helping children every chance he had, and earned a degree in Teaching from Castleton State College.

After graduation from college, he did his student teaching at Blue Mountain Union School during 1971-1972.  His first teaching job was at Littleton High School where he taught Business courses.  In 1973, Cy moved to California, where he eventually met his wife, Linda.  They were married in 1981, after moving back to Vermont.  In 1983, Cy began teaching Business and Computer courses at Hartford High School in White River Jct., VT.  In 2009, Cy retired after 38 years of teaching, moving with his wife to Florida.  He loved to golf, being on the course 3 or 4 times a week since retiring to The Villages.

Cy had a smile for everyone, and will be remembered for his wonderful laugh.  His kind-hearted nature, and outgoing personality endeared him to friends wherever he went.  He had an uplifting presence, and will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Cy was predeceased by his father Americo Rosa on May 26, 1962, his Mother Bernardine on March 12, 2010, and by his step father Harold Lee "Tom" Eastman on May 15, 1975.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda Rosa of The Villages, FL, two sons Travis Rosa of Pompano Beach, FL, and Kyle Rosa and wife Erika Rosa of San Francisco, CA, his step-son Marshall Hakala and wife Angel Hakala, his grandchildren Kadin Rosa, Kayla Rosa, Kelsie Hakala, Taylor Hakala, Liam Carberry, and Emma Hakala, a sister Gayle Darling and husband Jeff of Barnet, VT, and a brother Chester Rosa of St. Petersburg, FL, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 21st from 6 to 8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 22nd at 1 PM in the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Harvey Bartlett officiating.  Spring burial will be in the Pinehurst Cemetery, South Ryegate.
