Dan Smotrycz, 45, of Derry, NH, surrendered himself to the Lord on July 16, 2024.  Dan was born on July 7, 1979, in New Britain, CT to Jerry Jay and Marilyn Mitchell Smotrycz of Berlin, CT.  At age 4, his father passed away and Dan, his sister Suzi, and their mother spent the winter of 1984 in Lake Mary, FL. In June, they returned to NH (his mother's home base) and finally settled in Monroe, NH.
Dan attended Monroe Elementary School and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1998. He received a nursing degree from Quincy College in MA.  Over the years, Dan worked in drug rehabs and methadone treatment clinics in the Boston area. He worked at a nursing home in Medford, MA until the end of April 2024. He became licensed to practice in NH but had not found a job at the time of his passing.
Dan had a bearded dragon named Seraph, he was six years old and Dan's buddy, Dan enjoyed contemporary Christian music, making chain mail for armor, gameplaying, and growing vegetables. He was an accomplished cook and loved helping others.
He was predeceased by his father Jerry Jay Smotrycz, his stepfather Thomas E. Bedell, his Smotrycz grandparents, Mitchell grandparents, Aunt Rebecca Mitchell, Uncle Glenn Mitchell, Uncle Gerald Bedell, and several classmates.
He is survived by his mother Marilyn Bedell Morrison and stepfather David E. Morrison; his sister Suzanne Smotrycz Bedell (Tod) Guilford; his aunt, Anna (Eric) Fishbone; his uncles, Wayne (Rhia) Mitchell and Ken (Kathi) Mitchell; several great-aunts and uncles; a very special cousin, Denzil Mitchell; and numerous cousins. He is also survived by his beloved bearded dragon Seraph.
He was an active member of the Bridgeway Christian Church in Derry, NH.

There will be a gathering of Friends and Family on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 2-4 PM at the Monroe Town Hall.  A graveside service will be at the Monroe Village Cemetery on Plains Road, Monroe, NH on Monday, August 26 at 10 AM.
