January 18, 2024
Donald Everett Stevens, 96, passed peacefully at Lafayette Center, Franconia, NH, on January 18, 2024, to reunite with his beloved wife Barbara, where they will dance every dance for all eternity.
Donald was born on February 18, 1927, to his parents Myrtie Robie and William Stevens in Piermont, NH. He was an alumnus of Bradford Academy Class of 1945 and after graduating he joined the U.S. Army, where he served as an MP in Europe during WW II.
On July 3, 1948, he married Barbara, and they had 72 years of married bliss. Don and Barb made their home in Piermont, NH, while raising their two sons. Donald provided for his family by working at Whiting's Creamery in Bradford VT until it closed in 1962. He then drove an 18-wheeler for P&C in White River, VT, until he retired. After retirement, he continued to work at P&C Foods in Bradford, VT. He also worked for many years at Butson's Supermarket and Shaw's Supermarket in the produce department, until he finally fully retired in July of 2007 at 80 years of age.
Donald also cared about his community, and he stepped up to support many aspects of his community. He was a member of the Piermont Fire Department and was on the Zoning Board in Piermont. He was also active in the Piermont Congregational Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and Deacons. In 1952, he joined the VFW Post #5245 in North Haverhill, where both Donald and Barbara were very active members for more than 60 years.
Donald was a lifelong resident of Piermont prior to moving to their home on French Pond in North Haverhill in 1996, where they lived for many years, before relocating back to Piermont. Barb and Don wintered in Riverview, FL for many years, where they enjoyed the activities and friendships of a retirement community.
Donald was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, on September 6, 2020; by his parents Myrtie and William Stevens; by four of his siblings, Robie Stevens, Alfred Stevens, Edward Stevens, and Arlene Stevens; two granddaughters, Michelle Stevens-Metcalf and Pamela Delaney; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Stevens.
He is survived by his two sons, Thomas Stevens of Haverhill, NH, and Bryce Stevens of Haverhill, NH; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held June 1, 2024, at South Lawn Cemetery in Piermont, NH, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the North Haverhill VFW, Post # 5245.
