Obituary

Pike, NH Dorothy Marie (Cochran) Fortier, 87, of Mt. Moosilauke Highway, died unexpectedly on July 28, 2012, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. She was born in New Orleans, LA, March 28, 1925, a daughter of Roddie H. and Lovie Cochran. She attended parochial schools in New Orleans. Dorothy, in her younger years, worked as a government certified welder, building Liberty and tanker ships for Delta Shipyards in the Port of New Orleans. She was an accomplished artist and a certified ceramic instructor, owning Oliverian Ceramics. She made wedding and birthday cakes. She also worked at Grafton Fuel as owner and bookkeeper. She later worked at Glencliff Home for the Elderly as a nurse s aide until her retirement in 1980. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Joseph s Catholic Church of Woodsville, and was a member of Haverhill Memorial VFW Post # 5245 Ladies Auxiliary of North Haverhill. She enjoyed art and painting. She was predeceased by her parents; a grandson, Joseph Carr; a sister Mary Ellen Doan; and two step brothers Thomas and Richard Keller. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, William J. Fortier of Pike; a daughter Janet Locklin of Tulare, CA; two sons, Wayne H. Fortier and wife Sandy of Woodsville, NH and James G. Fortier and wife Jeri of Pike; seven granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Richards of Lee Summit, MO, and Vera Courthurst of Neevah, WI; along with several nieces, and nephews. At her request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, August 1st, at 1 PM in the Ladd Street Cemetery, Haverhill, NH.
