Dorothy
Longmoore
March 20, 2025
Newbury, VT – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Powers Longmoore, a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the age of 90 after a period of declining health.
Born on May 24, 1934, in Wells River, she grew up in Wells River and began her education at the Leighton Hill one-room schoolhouse before attending Newbury High School. One of her fondest memories was the day she was offered a ride home from school by Donald "Buddy"
Longmoore, Sr. – a moment she would later call "the luckiest day of my life". Dorothy and Buddy were married for 69 years, until his passing on April 19, 2021.
Dot found her passion in education, working as a beloved assistant teacher and cook at Boltonville Head Start. She was known for her warm soul and the special connection she shared with the children and their families – especially through her famous creamy macaroni and cheese, which became a favorite among her students.
Dorothy had a love for life's simple joys. She cherished summer rides to the local ice cream stand for a cup of banana ice cream and took delight in visiting yard sales on sunny summer and fall afternoons. She also had a passion for making homemade applesauce from the Duchess apple trees in her backyard.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Longmoore-Deuel and her husband Bill of Newbury, VT, and Donald Longmoore, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Newbury, VT; her grandchildren, Sam Longmoore and Dawna Vaughan and her husband Jarred; great grandchildren, Timmy, Mabel and Henry; and her sister, Marjorie Minshull and lots of loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald Longmoore, Sr., her parents, Ray and Helen (Crowe) Powers, and her siblings Harold "Bud" Powers, Irene Vielleux, Harvey "Bill" Powers, Charles "Bob" Powers, Marilyn Emerson, and Patricia Gallant.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 1 PM at the Townhouse Cemetery in Newbury.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Daphne Carbee and Dottie Perkins for their kindness and dedication in Dot's final years.
Dot was a member at South Newbury 7th Day Adventist Church.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, warmth and unwavering devotion to the Lord.
