Dorothy Frances (Baker) Pierson, 97, died peacefully on December 11, 2015 at Brookside Nursing Home. She was born in Orford, NH on March 4, 1918 to George and Alice (Franklin) Baker. Dot attended Orford schools graduating in 1936. She married William L. Pierson in 1938 and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage until his death in 1984. Dot was a homemaker and worked with William on their farm. She enjoyed her vegetable garden and baking for her family and friends. She was a member of the Mt. Cube Grange for over 50 years and served in the capacity of lecturer for most of those years. One of the things Dot will be remembered for was her ability to write poetry. Her family and friends received her poems for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. Dot also used poetry to commemorate her community. In 2010, the Orford Historical Society published some of her poems in a book, "Dorothy Baker Pierson: Poet to the Orford Community". Dot is survived by her children, Nettie Blake and Carol and David Gordon both of Coldwater, OH and William H. and Judith Pierson of Lakeland, FL, ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Helen Sanborn, son-in-law, Nathan Blake and a granddaughter, Rachel Adams. Dot spent the last three years of her life being lovingly cared for by her granddaughter, Amy Kosakowski in Fairlee, VT. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the Orford Street Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orford Historical Society, P.O. Box 44, Orford, NH 03777.
