Obituary

West Barnet, VT Duane Frank Willey, 70, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Barton, VT, January 6, 1944, the son of Harold G. and Philena (Dunn) Willey. Duane graduated from Lyndon Institute, class of 1962. He served with the U. S. Army from June 1962 to June 1971. He and Patricia Roy were married on August 15, 1970. Together, Duane and Patricia owned and operated, for 35 years, Chandler Pond Farm in South Wheelock, VT. Upon retiring from dairy farming in 2006, they moved to West Barnet. Duane was a member of the Farm Bureau and Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for many years. He loved attending auctions in the local area and visiting with folks in his travels. Duane loved to tinker with his old tractors, steam engines, and anything that needed tinkering. He loved to give anyone a helping hand and tell a good joke. Duane loved spending time with his grandchildren and reminiscing about childhood situations that he and his siblings got into. He will be missed by many. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold G. and Philena (Dunn) Willey, and a brother, David Willey. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Roy) Willey of West Barnet; two daughters, Marieka Larrabee and husband Alfred of East Calais, VT and Heather Mass and husband Robert of Monroe, NH; two grandchildren, Alyana and Miliano Mass of Monroe; four sisters, Audrey Phelps of Danville, VT, Linda Knox of West Burke, VT, Faye Hume and husband Douglas of Sheffield, VT, and Kiki Blay of Sheffield, VT; two brothers, Elba Willey and wife Sue of Kirby, VT and Floyd Willey and wife Elaine of West Burke, VT; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held this spring at the convenience of the family.
