South Ryegate, VT- Duncan Nelson McKay Leete, 91, died at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Duncan was born in Topsham, VT on February 28, 1924 to Henry R. and Ruth (McKay) Leete. He attended Woodsville High School. Duncan married Geraldine "Gerry" Knight on May 26, 1944. The North Country lost a very good man. He was a rugged man who was always kind and gentle. As a brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Duncan excelled in all his roles in life. Duncan spent his entire 91 years in the Topsham-Newbury area. A farmer, welder, logger, and auto-parts technician, Duncan was one of those guys who could figure out how to fix anything. There are many stories of Duncan spending several days welding a piece of farm equipment and only charging very little if any, knowing the struggles of the working man. Never rich with money, Duncan was wealthy with love of family and friends. We will miss his knowledge, good humor, love, and kindness. Duncan was a member and former trustee of the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the McLure's Band as a drummer from the age of seven. Duncan was also a member of the Blue Mountain Grange for over 65 years. Left in his shadow are his loving wife of 71 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Leete; two daughters, Carol Norcross and husband Larry of North Haverhill, NH and Brenda Highland and husband Jack of Newbury, VT; two sons, Donald Leete and wife Dee Dee and Alan Leete and wife Nancy both of Newbury; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Page and husband Gerald of Wells River, VT; a brother, Delbert Leete and wife Shirley of Newbury; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Stewart Leete. Calling hours will be on Saturday, July 11 from 6-7:30 PM with a memorial service at 7:30, at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
