Edith M.
Hall
July 16, 2020
Bradford, VT- Edith Mae Hall, 88, formerly of Pike, NH and San Diego, CA passed on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Margaret Pratt Community in Bradford.
Edith was born on June 23, 1932 in Pike, NH to Ellis O. J. and Ruth B. (Snell) Hall. She was a graduate of Haverhill Academy, Class of 1950.
After graduation, Edith began her 42-year secretarial career. Her first job was at NH Fire Insurance in Manchester, NH. In 1952, she moved to Plymouth, NH to work for insurance agent Mary Small, until her business merged with Ayer Insurance. Edith worked with Ayer Insurance until 1965, when she joined the staff at WPNH. Not a fan of the snow and cold, she decided to seek a warmer climate. After spending time in Arizona and Hawaii, she settled in San Diego, CA. In 1969, she accepted a position at AAA-Automobile Club of Southern California. She retired from the Auto Club in 1992. In autumn of 2013, she returned to New Hampshire, where she became a resident at Riverglen House in Littleton. She later resided at Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH before moving to Margaret Pratt Community in Bradford. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care she received at each of these facilities.
Edith was a long-time supporting member of the San Diego Zoo and an active member of Holy Trinity Parish of Ocean Beach. She loved traveling and one of the highlights of her life was a solo trip to England where she explored London and the English countryside. She had many adventures traveling the Northeast and Canada with her dear friend, Ruthie, and exploring the West with friends Sarah, Lois, and Gloria. She enjoyed walking the beach and hiking the desert. Edith was an avid reader who was particularly fond of the writings of Jane Austen. She followed the PGA tour as an armchair spectator and cheered for both the Padres and the Chargers.
Edith had an adventurous spirit, a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was a fiercely loving and loyal daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her intelligence and quick wit were matched by her deep kindness, grace and dignity. She lived life on her own terms. She passed the same way.
She is survived by two brothers, Richard B. Hall and wife Shirley of Pike, NH and Herbert W. Hall of Concord, NH; her five nieces, Debra Dudley and Diane Abbott both of Concord, Dorothy Bronson of Miami, FL, Denise Eastman of Pike, and Lisa Hervey of Newbury, VT; and her nephew, Donald Hall of Loudon, NH.
She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth H. Kimball on June 5, 1991 and a brother, Howard E. Hall on June 1, 2001.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 30 th at 11 AM in the Bethany Congregational Church, Pike, NH. In keeping with current social distancing guidelines, masks are required for indoor services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Holy Trinity Parish of Ocean Beach, PO Box 81804, San Diego, CA 92138-1804 or to the Bethany Congregational Church, c/o Mrs. Alice Hodgdon, 1150 Brushwood Road, Pike, NH 03780.
