North Haverhill, NH- Edith Rose Hammond, 79, died on May 24, 2008, at the Grafton County Nursing Home. Edie was born in Lisbon, NH, on June 20, 1928, to Frederick and Jessie (Parker) Stebbins. She was a 1946 graduate of Woodsville High School, Woodsville, NH. She married Dean G. Hammond on May 6, 1950. She worked as a secretary at New England Baptist Hospital, Boston, MA, and later at First National Warehouse in North Haverhill. Edie was a devoted member and past Worthy Matron of Iona Lafayette Chapter #39 Order of the Eastern Star of North Haverhill and Grand Adah of the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire Order of the Eastern Star, and Trustee of Grafton #46 Building Association. She was a member of the North Haverhill United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She worked at the North Haverhill Fair and organized the queen contest for several years. She enjoyed working outside in her flower gardens, raking, and shoveling snow. She was predeceased by her husband, Dean G. Hammond on December 14, 1992. She is survived by her two sons, Don J. Hammond and wife Patty and Alan D. Hammond, both of North Haverhill; a special niece, Shirley Slattery and husband Peter of Bath, NH, and several other nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, on Tuesday, May 27, from 6:30-8:00 PM with an Eastern Star service at 7:45. A funeral service will be held at the North Haverhill United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 28, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Vadia Boudreau officiating. Burial will follow in Horsemeadow Cemetery, North Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dean G.
