Benton, NH- Edward Frank Matz, 91, of Coventry Road, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. Edward was born on April 23, 1924 in Havre, MT, to Frank P. and Josephine (Panu) Matz. Edward was a US Navy retiree having served during World War II on the USS Long Island at Guadalcanal, the USS Steamer Bay and on the USS Midway. He served in the Fleet Reserve until April 1972. After retiring from active duty, he worked at the Quonset Point, RI, Navy Rework Facility as a jet engine mechanic. Edward married Irene Bruno on January 22, 1949. The couple moved to Benton in 1978. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Woodsville, NH. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Irene Matz on March 25, 2015. He is survived by three sons, Scott F. of Benton, Joseph D. and wife Shelley of Barre, VT, and Edward J. and wife Jennifer of Longmeadow, MA; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, Anthony, Ethan, McKenzie, Ally, and Natalie; and two great grandchildren, Sebastian and Christian. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, May 12 at 1PM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville with Father Alan Tremblay, officiating. Burial for both Edward and Irene will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Bath, NH.
