Peterborough, NH - Ellen H. Grauer, 96, of RiverMead, died on Friday, February 25, 2011. Mrs. Grauer was born in Manchester, NH, on February 9, 1915, to Arthur G. and Margaret (Milburn) Hartshorn. She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, Class of 1933, and of Keene State College, Class of 1936. She also received her B.S. degree from Springfield College in 1942. Mrs. Grauer was the Director of the Manchester Girls Club and was Program Secretary for the Rochester, NY, YMCA. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She and her husband traveled extensively, based on his military assignments. They lived in New York City, Newport, ME, Washington DC, Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Chateauroux, France, Beverly, MA, Los Angeles, CA, and Fort Washington, MD. Following the death of her husband John she moved to The Greens in Hanover, NH to be nearer her sister, Florence House. Fifteen years ago she moved to The RiverMead Retirement Community in Peterborough where she was one of its original residents. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. (Retired) USAF John J. Grauer, Jr. in 1982 and a sister Florence Pug House in 1993. She is survived by their daughter, Ellen Louise Mann and husband Richard of Portland, OR; two granddaughters, Barbara and Sylvia; two great grandsons; one niece, Jane Mikell of Springfield, IL and one nephew, James M. House and wife Paula of Woodsville, NH. Services and burial will be at a later date in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH.
